New Team + Earthlight Arcade ๐Ÿš€

Over the past few weeks, the new team have really bonded. For all of you who don't remember the team, we have Jennifer Scheurle (Objects in Space), Stefan Allaki (Sims Freeplay), and Michael Davies (Obliteracers, Dead Space). They've sprinted hard meeting their deadlines well and truly before they are due, even hitting their MVP for the HTC Vive collaboration two weeks earlier than expected. Having such a passionate team working on a project that they love is definitely truly special.

Whilst  Emre Deniz (Director Opaque Space) has been in Taipei at Vive HQ, meeting with our partners. The team has recorded voice over, and worked with the amazing Fabian Malabello and Curtis Schweitzer from The Otherworld Agency to get some truly special audio and sounds into the Earthlight Arcade experience.

Tomorrow Jennifer and Mitchell Manganaro (Opaque Media Group) will be heading out for a day of play testing. As the team has spent the last few weeks polishing, it's time to get some feedback on how it plays. The data we get from the testing will help shape the project in the weeks to come.

We've got some really exciting news coming out in July that we think you'll love, so please stick around for more on Earthlight.

Earthlight is off to NASA

Earthlight is off to NASA

Earthlight will be deployed on the Active Response Gravity Offload System (ARGOS) immediately after the Game Developers Conference (GDC) as an experiment in using cutting edge VR to train astronauts.

This marks the third and most exciting visit by the developers to NASA facilities, beginning a new chapter in the collaboration between Opaque and the space agency. The developers will join astronaut candidates, strapping into ARGOS and experiencing Earthlight in simulated microgravity.

This will give both the developers and NASA a chance to see how n Earthlight can be used to define the future of astronaut training.

As some of you might have seen, the Earthlight team had a blast at Huston, and we through it would be a good idea if there is a way for us to share it with our community. The team brainstormed how we could achieve this. After a discussion over (many) coffees and cakes, we decided to hold a competition to give away some NASA gear we picked up. The winners would receive items that were difficult to get unless you had been to Houston and bought them yourself.

During the week of 21st March, the discipline leads of Earthlight were able to spend an entire week at the Johnson Space Center where we were led around the enormous campus of facilities by the lovely people from NASA's Public Affairs Office.

"We are pretty focused right now on collecting feedback on gameplay concepts and trying to find the right balance between โ€˜funโ€™ and โ€˜authenticโ€™ training experiences."
